Let's get our Covid shots on!

You can book an appointment for your Covid immunization at: https://yukon.ca/en/this-is-our-shot

Hi. I'm speaking to you today from a beautiful spot in the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations traditional territory. I'm feeling very lucky to be here today.

I want to talk a bit about our opportunity coming up for all of us to get our covid shots. I've been speaking with friends and acquaintances about this over the last couple of weeks and I know that there are a lot of people who are worried about getting the shots. I'll be honest: I can't say I don't have my worries too.

I kinda wish that this whole thing had been a bit longer in development and that there had been more time and testing and trials. That’s not just the situation we are in.

I'm in a low risk group but not all of us are like that.

I think about people like my Dad who is 82 and has a heart condition.

I think about a friend of ours here who has breast cancer. She’s heading down south soon for her first round of radiation and chemotherapy. Those people are high risk.

I’ll be straightforward with you. I don’t trust that Trudeau fellow further than I could throw him. There are some people who I do trust. I had occasion a couple years ago to have some interactions with Dr. Brendan Hanley and I trust him. I know Megan Willard as many of you have who’s been our nurse in charge for quite a few years and I trust her and I know both of those folks know a lot more about this than I do.

You know when Covid started, the government told us we were all in this storm together. We were going to weather this storm together. Well that proves not to be the case.

I saw a meme on Facebook the other day that really hit the nail head. We may all be in the same storm, but there’s vastly different size boats in this storm. Some of us are in great big yachts and some of us in little canoes.

I have to look at this and recognize that I am one of the lucky ones. And this is my opportunity to help those who are not so lucky.

Please think about everyone. Think about those less fortunate than you.

I really hope you make you appointment this coming week and go get your covid shots the next week.

Thanks for considering it and take care.
